Students of the Month
-
Jorge De La Riva - March 2025
Piano - Instructor David Burbano
Q. Hi Jorge, congratulations you are our student of the month, how are you?
A. Very good, how are you?
Q. I’m doing great, thank you for asking. I have a few questions for you, what is your favorite style of music and musician and why?
A. It’s hard to pick but I like playing a lot of the jazz music that is given to me here. I don’t know all the names of them, but I just like being expose to all the different kinds. It’s kind of my
favorite part, not just one part, but you get exposure to many types of music and I think that really helps.
Q. What inspired you to start piano lessons?
A. I came back to it, I had not played since I was a kid, so for me is super relaxing and engaging; something that unblocks a new creative aspect.
Q. What is something amazing you have learned during your lessons so far?
A. It’s hard to tell, but for me it's when things start to snap together that you don’t automatically expect. Practice definitely pays off, you don’t see it in real time, but in the long term.
Q. What do you enjoy most about your piano lessons?
A. My instructor, I can’t even say all the different things that we’ve gotten the chance to speak. He is just an absolute delight, I look forward every week to seeing everyone here, but specially David.
Q. Well Jorge thank you so much and again congratulations, we are so proud of you! Keep up the good work.
A. Thank you.

Jessica Alvarez - February 2025
Drums - Instructor David Burbano
Q. Hi Jessica, congratulations! You’re our student of the month, how are you doing?
A. I’m good, thank you.
Q. I have some questions for you.
What is your favorite style of music and musician and why?
A. I always gravitated towards rock kinda music and any kind of sub-genre 80s rock, 90s, some pop punk stuff as well. My favorite musician... that is hard to choose, right now I would say is Twenty One Pilots.
Q. What inspired you to start drum lessons?
A. Well, I remember as a kid I once saw this guy playing drums and I thought he was the coolest person ever and I always wanted to learn, but I never really got the chance. So now that I’m grown up and have some money to spend, I wanted to challenge myself how to play an instrument and why not learn the drums.
Q. What is something amazing you have learned during your lessons so far?
A. Something that I still need to learn as an adult is that when things get hard and tricky as much as I want not to give up-as frustrated as I get I learned that as long as I keep trying and pushing, I’ll come out through the other end and do better.
Q. What do you enjoy the most about your drum lessons?
A. I have enjoyed all of it, honestly, but love learning new songs specially the ones I already know because once i’m listening to them I can appreciate them so much more and I do that now with every single song I listen to I’m like “oh my God, the drums sound so good. I want to learn how to play this song.” So yeah, learning songs that I like to listen to.
Q. Again, congratulations and we are so proud of you. Keep up the good work!
